For a long time, the electrical sector has faced the challenge of increasing the quality of power supply while holding down operational costs, a mission that is possible through more efficient use of substation assets.Today, companies can depend on a solution developed by Treetech for a complete and integrated asset management in compliance with the latest world standards, the Smart Grid. This solution is based on Decentralized Architecture with on-line monitoring and management by applying the predictive maintenance concept.

Treetech's solution uses Smart Devices™ and SIGMA software, which is specific for monitoring and management and is based on mathematic models and artificial intelligence. The decentralized architecture of Treetech's solution offers the following benefits:

• - Simplification, stability and reliability: because it is modular, Treetech's solution doesn't need the centralized elements of PLCs and IHMs that are required with typical systems on the market;
• - Complete and simultaneous control of every substation: all client assets of every substation are integrated into the same platform. This allows a complete and real time vision of the installed capacity's situation.
• - Fast and easy remote access: SIGMA can be installed both in the corporate network (intranet) as well as in an IDC (Internet Data Center) if the client opts for a cloud architecture, which uses the Cloud Computing (web 2.0) concept. Information can be accessed through any device – notebook, cell phone – connected to the intranet or the Internet.
• - Use of pre-existing sensors: SIGMA offers the convenience of integrating both Treetech IEDs as well as other sensors in a single platform and avoids the need for new sensors.
• - Flexibility: due to its open architecture, SIGMA releases information that can be integrated with other software used by the client;
• - Scalability: Treetech's solution has a custom setting for each asset’s size and budget. Depending on the client's preference and priority, a Smart Device™ can be initially installed and subsets of Smart Devices™ can be added later. Each Smart Device™ operates autonomously with its inherent capacity to process information. Thus, the Solution can be enlarged and include other assets – transformers, circuit-breakers, isolators, CTs, voltage regulators – and other substations, guaranteeing control unity.
• - Technological interactivity: communication between Smart Devices™ and SIGMA can be established through wireless technology (Bluetooth, GPRS, Wi-Fi, wi-max, radio, IEC61850 protocol) or crossover cable and optical fiber.

Variables related to the state and operation of assets are captured by the Smart Devices™ and sent to SIGMA, which treats them through algorithms and mathematical models built in compliance with Brazilian (NBR) and international (IEC and IEEE) standards. This treatment results in the diagnostic of the equipment’as current condition and the forecast of its future condition to detect early failures.
